  • Tecnologías de Vigilancia, Navegación y Detección/Resolución de Conflictos para los Futuros Sistemas Europeos de Gestión de Tráfico Aéreo CNS/ATM

    The presented project is focused in the area of developing new air traffic management systems based in CNS/ATM concept (Communications, Navigation and Surveillance / Air Traffic Management). This concept, intended towards a trajectory-based traffic management, appears in replacement of the traditional more rigid airspace-based control, exclusively employing predefined routes. The real implementation of this operative concept (Iaunched by ICAO in the 90's decade) has become possible due to the maturation of certain basic technologies required for its realization (AOS-B, multilateration systems, navigation systems, GNSS, oo.).

    The main goal of this project is the development of new algorithms, operational concepts and technology for the critical components of future CNS/ATM systems, expected to be deployed worldwide along the next 15 years. We will specifically focus our attention in the five following areas:

     

    1. Study of accurate prediction methods for aircraft trajectories, as a basement for automatic intelligent traffic management.

     

    2. Analysis of the system's operative concept and methods for intelligent prediction/resolution of conflicts between aircraft. The objective is optimizing each aircraft cost subject to certain constraints in times of arrival, maximum system capability, etc.

    3. Study of senor fusion systems for navigation and algorithms to improve its integrity.

    4. System design and data fusion algorithms for the fu tu re functions of surveillance based on AOS-B and multilateration.

     

    5. Proposals of new methods for performance evaluation and automatic monitoring of CNS/ATM systems.

  • Algoritmos de fusión de datos para la integración de datos de medidas de radar secundario y de sistemas WAM

    This series of projects, done for INDRA Company, we have developed a new generation of data fusion algorithms for Air Traffic Control Centers (Data Processors). Typically aircraft trajectory extraction was done fusing position measurements coming from primary and secondary radars (PSR and SSR). The new developed algorithms determine trajectory using the information included in the measurements ofthe new surveillance sensors:  Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS-B), Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) and Mode S radars with extended surveillance. These new sensors have as main advantage that the measurements are taken by the aircraft navigation system (e.g. position, velocity, flight plan, maneuver characteristics, measurement accuracy ... ) and sent to the ATM center. The whole information is processed in a integrated way and the results (predicted aircraft information) made accessible to ATC controller and ATM facilities easily for each aircraft

  • ATLANTIDA: Aplicación de Tecnologías Líder a Aeronaves No Tripuladas para la Investigación y Desarrollo en ATM, CDTI

    ATLANTIDA (Aplicación de Tecnologías Líder a Aeronaves No Tripuladas para la Investigación y el Desarrollo en ATM, 2007-2011) es un proyecto CENIT financiado por el CDTI, con un consorcio de 15 empresas y numerosos Organismos Públicos de Investigación. Aborda los retos científicos y tecnológicos que deben ser superados para la introducción de elevados niveles de automatización en la gestión de espacios aéreos complejos. ATLANTIDA se propone explorar una aproximación totalmente automatizada a la gestión de trafico aéreo aplicable sin solución de continuidad a cualquier escenario de operación de vehículos aéreos, incluyendo la aviación convencional, las aplicaciones civiles y militares de UAVs (aeronaves no tripuladas). A tal efecto se han desarrollado medios avanzados de simulación de alta fidelidad que, junto con el empleo de medios experimentales basados en plataformas de vuelo no tripuladas permitirán construir, validar y, finalmente, evaluar innovadores conceptos y tecnologías para la gestión de trayectorias.

    En este proyecto, GPDS-CEDITEC participa en la definición, diseño e implementación de varios de los puntos claves del proyecto como son a) la arquitectura de vigilancia, tanto del centro de control como embarcada, basada en mensajes ADS-B; b) el análisis de trafico real y la generación de muestras de tráfico para la simulación; c) la creación de un motor de simulación de eventos discretos y d) la generación de la intención de las aeronaves como un conjunto de órdenes de control para sintetizar una trayectoria compatible con las restricciones operacionales, la situación meteorológica, el rendimiento de la aeronave, etc. Este último elemento constituye una piedra angular del concepto de negociación de trayectorias de ATLANTIDA, pues permite traducir información de alto nivel del vuelo, entendible por controladores y pilotos humanos, en secuencias de órdenes univocas para el sistema automático de control de la aeronave.

    GPDS-CEDITEC realiza sus actividades en ATLANTIDA cooperativamente con INDRA y Boeing Research Technology Europe.

     

     

    ATLANTIDA (Spanish acronym for Application of Technology to Unmanned for Research and Development in ATM, 2007-2011) is a project funded by the Spanish Industry Ministry, made by a consortium of 15 companies and many Public Research Agencies and Universities. It addresses the scientific and technological challenges that must be overcome for the introduction of high levels of automation in managing complex airspace. ATLANTIDA explores a fully automated approach to managing air traffic, applicable to any phase of operation of aircraft, and to conventional aviation, and military and civilian applications of UAVs (unmanned aircraft). To this end it has developed high-fidelity simulation means, along with experimental facilities based on unmanned aircraft platforms, which allowed building, validating and ultimately assessing innovative concepts and technologies for trajectory management.

     n this project, GPDS-CEDITEC participates in the definition, design and implementation of several of the key points of the project and are a) the surveillance architecture both for the control centre and for airborne surveillance, based on ADS-B messages, b) real traffic analysis and traffic generation of sample scenarios for the simulation, c) creating an engine for discrete event simulation and d) generation of aircraft intent as a set of control commands to synthesize a trajectory compatible with operational restrictions, weather conditions, aircraft performance, etc. This last element is a key element of the concept of trajectory negotiation within ATLANTIDA, allowing translating high-level information, which can be understood by human operators of the flight (controllers and pilots), in a complete and unambiguous sequence of orders for the automatic control of the aircraft.

    GPDS-CEDITEC conducts its activities in ATLANTIDA in cooperation with INDRA and Boeing Research and Technology Europe.

Trajectory Predictor Web Service. This service computes an aircraft trajectory from a flight plan and other operation features. The TPWS is an outcome of the collaboration with Boeing Research&Technology Europe (BR&TE).
